AIM Honors 2018 Industry Award Winners

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | March 7, 2018 |AIM, the trusted worldwide industry association for the automatic identification industry, providing unbiased information, educational resources and standards for nearly half a century, has announced the first group of recipients for the 2018 AIM Awards, which honor excellence and outstanding achievement in the automatic identification and data capture industry.

AIM's 2018 award winners are being announced at three separate industry events this year, with the first presentation during a special reception held in Sunnyvale, California as part of Connections Summit 2018, hosted by AIM, NFC Forum and RAIN RFID Alliance.  In the coming weeks, events in both the U.S. and Europe will reveal the remaining honorees.

John Hill, Director of the St. Onge Company, was selected as recipient of the 2018 Dilling Award.  Named for industry pioneer Richard Dilling, this award is considered to be the highest honor given in the AIDC industry and recognizes lifetime achievements that have furthered industry growth through significant applications and new technological developments.   Mr. Hill has been a tireless contributor to the field of barcoding and automatic identification for more than five decades. He led or supported over 100 successful systems installations in automatic identification & data capture (AIDC), warehouse management and transportation management, primarily for Fortune 500 companies.  Mr. Hill's commitment to the industry led him to co-found AIM, where his service included Board Chair and where he remains an Emeritus member today.   In addition, he held the position of President for both the Material Handling Institute and the Material Handling Education Foundation.  A charter member of AIDC 100, Mr. Hill currently serves on its leadership council.

AIM's 2018 Percival Award recipient is Stanton Kaye, President & Founder of Infratab.  The award honors outstanding contributions in the user community and was established in 1982 to honor Don Percival, an early founder and pioneer in scanning. The award is presented each year to an individual or organization from the user community recognizing outstanding contributions to the application of automatic identification and data capture technologies.  Mr. Kaye has been been active for over thirty years in the field of freshness monitoring and holds four patents in perishable shelf life, using crystal and gel chemical diffusion and controlled electronic corrosion to emulate a perishable s spoilage characteristics.  Prior to founding Infratab, he was Vice President of Marketing/International at Quarterdeck and is credited with taking a system utility and turning it into the highest volume retail software product next to Windows.

Vyasa Sai, PhD, currently part of Intel Corporation's  research and development team in Folsum, California, was named recipient of the 2018 Williams Award, given in recognition of his effort to further the growth of the AIDC industry in academia through work as a teacher, researcher or entrepreneur.  Dr. Sai holds multiple degrees in Electrical & Computer Engineering from the U.S. as well as India, and received his PhD from the RFID Center of Excellence at the University of Pittsburgh where he was mentored by the late Marlin H. Mickle, a pioneer in the application of RF energy waves.  His research explores passive node capabilities with respect to affordable power consumption to suit target applications, in order to enable more than just basic identification, with contributions that have provided improved energy efficiency and security in passive wireless systems for radio frequency identification (RFID) and Internet of Things (IoT) applications.  Dr. Sai is a published author and editor who hold several US patents.  In 2016, he was elevated to Senior IEEE member in recognition of his professional development and research contributions in the fields of RFID and IoT.
